Master Ballet Instructor, SKM Dance
For Kim Holland, the love of ballet started at age six when her interest was captured by the Nutcracker. She began her dance journey with the Erie Civic Ballet. At age 12, Kim received a scholarship to The Chautauqua Institution of New York to attend ballet summer school where she was exposed to other forms of dance and attended classical performances. Kim continued her dance education at the Dance Theatre of Erie (attending classes six days a week) and performed in Fusion of the Arts. At the age of 16, Kim was selected from students across Pennsylvania to attend the Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Performing Arts. Kim attended Mercyhurst College in Erie, PA where she also taught, choreographed, and performed leading roles in the Nutcracker, Giselle, Coppelia, Don Quixote, and Firebird. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance with a minor in Computer Management Information Systems. For the next 19 years, Kim was a flight attendant for American Airlines, but continued her dance education, taking classes in New York and Washington D.C. Kim married Mark Holland in 1991 and they have two sons, Jacob and Cole. Kim has been a member of the SKM Dance Creative Team since 2007, where she teaches Level II Ballet, Level III Ballet, and Pointe. Her wish for her students is that they have fun while learning proper technique and acquiring a love and respect for the art of classical ballet.
